P utham Pudhu Kaalai - While all the 5 stories make us feel warm and relevant, it's undoubtedly Karthik Subbaraj's Miracle which leaves a lasting impression and a happily bid goodbye. The year 2020 has been getting crazier, stranger and unforeseen day by day. Who would’ve thought Tamil Cinema’s finest Auteur’s, known for their rising and/or unique voices are roped in to make a 25min shorts which culminate into an   Anthology . The review will comment on each short film as a sole and at the end, overall. Ilamai Idho Idho - Directed by Sudha Kongara The long-lasting impression of Love beyond every strata and stigma, where, as   Madhavan  ( in the most meta-state presence) narrates, that it’s more of how it makes each feel that’s important than anything. There are a playful joy and cheerfulness in the fantasy or the idea of Sudha Kongara's most  class over crass  story ever, in shifting back and forth from an Objective and more externalised point of view of a...

Thoughts on Ponniyin Selvan (PS) - 1

P onniyin Selvan (PS) – 1 – Ratnam’s eloquently fallible retelling of epic literature. Mani Ratnam ’s unending attempts to create a cinematic rendition of Tamil Literature’s Ponniyin Selvan have finally come to fruition after 2 failed attempts across several decades. I haven’t read the novel which spans 5 books and has its epic heart at the right place by starting off with the line “Let’s go back a century every second and cross a millennium. After 10 seconds, we enter the Chola Dynasty”. Quite recognisably challenging to take this subject to the screen, Mani Ratnam   mostly succeeds in the daunting task of cinematically telling the first half of the novel. Why mostly?  The intimidating task to bring a novel (which is utterly dense in breadth and depth) to the world of cinema always has an inevitable sacrifice to regress the story. Ratnam said that he would be sticking to the core thread, which is, Vandiyadevan ’s journey as an agent as well as a messenger in reticent...

Now Premiering - V

V – Entertaining and Innovative in the space of familiarity. In an Interview of Mohan Krishna Indraganti, the Writer and Director said that the core story of V was shaped out way back in 2006. In 2018, post-Sammohanam, Dil Raju (Producer) longed for a script like V as the markets for such genre had just opened (  Ratsasan  etc.). So V is a culmination of your Garden-side Psycho-police mind games with the action entertaining elements and release might be the case of right ( I’d love to call it manageable) concept at the wrong time. The endless list of external travesties like # Nani25 , # NanivsSudheer , #Sept5release ( which is the date of #Nani1 release –  Ashta Chamma )  and many more made the movie look more stale. One more important factor is the influence of current Psycho Killer genre in a yester decade  script. The audience has become smart, mature and very much exposed to all the brilliant content outside of  Tollywood  and ...
