Revisiting Indian Cinema of '10s ( A Sunday Digest) -BASED ON A TRUEer STORY?

Image
B ased on a Truer Story? Biopics and Documentaries have taken swift progress in The ‘10s, especially in Indian Cinema. Foreign Cinema already had a Culture of Docu-Dramas, but where it caught the attention of Indian Film Makers is the possibility of an Emotionally Wrenching Story with few Creative Liberties to the life’s of an “Achiever”(say, an underdog Achiever). It mostly started with Sports Drama –( MS Dhoni: The Untold Story   and  Sachin: A Billion Dreams   along with  Mary Kom  and  Azhar ) , took Patriotism from there to make Indian Scientific Drama’s like  Parmanu: The Story of Pockran(2018), next leeway to the Terrorism type Martyr Thrillers like  Raazi(2018) and Uri: The Surgical Strike . Political Drama’s like  Thackeray , PM Narendra Modi  also found some space and light, along with  NTR: Mahanayakudu. C oming to this movie, we also had its Predecessor  NTR: Kathanayaku ,  a movie on the legendary Actor who didn’t have the peaking homage and love as  Mahanati  had.  Mah

Now Premiering - Ek Mini Katha

Ek Mini Katha – Wins a guffaw or two but shatters only a stigma or two. Ek Mini Katha , premiering on Amazon Prime Video, is superficially a psychologically shattering unshy movie with comedy en route. As you unzip, you’ll find maturity levels of the makers are smaller than the problematic dick of our hero. The movie juxtaposes itself next to  Vicky Donor  and  Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan  but is  Shudhh Desi Romance  crossed over with icky jokes of  Allari .  The movie had too many size issues, which got abstractly layered in my imagination. The  size  of the movie’s projection aspect ratio is squarish and closer to 16:9, which fills my laptop screen. For a moment, I thought it’s an adult English sitcom, which has come to provide me with some laughs. I never started taking the film seriously, thinking it’s a lavish yesteryear TV show. It’s the issue of a Larger, immersive aspect ratio with minimally evoked subconscious seriousness. Hitherto the head-on tackling of the main subject,

Revisiting Indian Cinema of '10s ( A Sunday Digest) - Why only a HEROine? Why not a Woman?

L ess Testosterone Powered Cinematic Highs (and Lows) It’ll take some time for the movies to have more central Female Characters, but we haven’t had any less number of Movies this decade with Strong Women or Female Superstars, which once was only entitled with only a Few Directors and Actors. Especially in the latter half of the decade, we have seen some movies with Strong Women with their Sense of Judgement, Priorities and Persona and not reduced to a Hero’s Helping hand cum Love Interest. They have not been the face of soft-side for a more or less Larger than Life Protagonist.  Take for example  Chitra  from  Pellichoopulu(2016)   or even  Aruvi  from  Aruvi(2018) ,  they have their character arc throughout the film, which is rare for a Cinema with a legacy of Women portrayed mostly as Professional “Lovers”. Jessie from  VinaithaandiVaruvaaya(2010)/ Ye Maaya Chesave(2010) ,    Bhanumathi  from  Fidaa(2017)   and also the woman in Action Thrillers like  Goodachari(2018)   and  Uri:

Now Premiering - Cinema Bandi

Cinema Bandi – Slipshod Duo of Village and Cinema Netflix’s new rural and coming of age title  Cinema Bandi  has a runtime similar to an independent art film – 108mins. These 100-110 minute movies have a greater depth to cover by focusing on one primal storyline which has a multiplied dramatic capabilities.  Cinema Bandi  has its foothold on different definitions of making a 108min movie. It thrives on a panoptic coverage than a layered approach.  The auto driver from a technologically shy community takes hold of a Feature Film camera, misplaced by someone in his passengers. At first, the camera and the Protagonists make each other an alienist. This alienist notion starts spreading like a wildfire once the camera reaches the right tree - The Wedding Photographer of the Village.  The Protagonist's love for staying back in the village and belief that Villages too will one day have development is unparalleled. So is his innocence. While both of them decide to make a movie out of

Thoughts on Check - A Yeleti Infused Shawshank Redemption

Check – Yeleti Infused Shawshank Redemption  With Check being released on SunNXT and JioCinema this weekend, I have made it a point to "check" it out, mainly because I missed it in theatre. This article is written as an opinion piece on the movie which resulted from my curiosity of why it was not appreciated during its theatrical release.  Surprisingly this time, even the critics didn’t like a Yeletic . Chandra Sekhar Yeleti and his team, made a constant point throughout the pre-release interviews that the masses are going to like it. Though they didn’t say it deliberately, the discussion of Yeleti finally having a commercial success always came up in the publicity. It looked like this time, he has made the movie for the crowd ( and not the critics alone ). Sukumar was also partially held at the same position before he made Rangasthalam (2018), as his films were only becoming the content for  #underrated  and  #aheadofitstime  tags by insta meme-makers and serious movieg
