Solo Brathuke So Better ( SBSB ) - The Romance×Comedy×Drama formula has its elements outdated with only comedy being a saving grace.
Sai Dharam Tej’s (SDT) desperate craving for success was fulfilled last year with Chithralahari and Prathi RojuPandage. While the latter is much better in terms of entertaining the family audience, it still was backed by momentary ideas of doing so. This year with SBSB, SDT feels his movie is special and we too do so. But there is a slight difference in both.
SBSB takes inspirations from many plots and tries to follow the current trends of getting a Hit, but what ends up happening is mixed bag of rotten fruits. Starting with a Youth leader-esque pilot, along with some faked deep narration ( that’s inspiration there ) by SDT, which won't even continue for the rest the film ( that’s inspiration there too ), it moves on to an attempted buddy comedy-esque zone and some nah-inspiring slokas ( that’s an inspiration again! ) and finally settles to a Romantic and Dramatic 2nd half with a dash of comedy carried over. It is meticulously choreographed to mechanically evoke and embrace a certain feeling at a certain time. There is no space for an organic bittersweet emotion as it utilises all it's mirth to satisfy unwanted and yesteryear entertainment techniques.

Covering the spectrum of family favourable genres was once, in Prathiroju Pandage , an asset for the SDT movie. In SBSB, this is a hastily stitched mishap of being a hero-worship vehicle. After all, it suffers from grappling problems as big as story development. The convincing part seems to be forgotten, only for the viewers to forget the connect. Is it too much to ask for some “Sense” and “Harmless fun” in movies?
We have got movies which covered “Sense” and ”Harmless fun” partially in OTT releases of 2020 and were questionable in their positive responses ( yes I’m looking at V, Miss India and Penguin among a lot of many ). A movie which ignores covering both cannot be expected to be accepted by the people post covid, for a theatre release and right away would’ve been turned a blind eye even on OTT.
There are few things which at least help you sit through the 2.5hr mark in the theatre risking your life ( Only, if you were as a craving for a theatre experience as I was ). First is the slapstick, lovable Comedy sequences by Satya, Vennela Kishore and SDT ( yes, he’s the only new-age hero form extended Mega family tree who can do comedy). Second is Thaman’s hummable tunes, though their placement seems off. Also, there are few interestingly thought off points in an otherwise artificial story – Like the way hero’s ideologies hit him from his girlfriend’s thinking, ultimately effecting his romantic relationship.

SBSB might be your choice for getting back that togetherness and joyful enjoyment in a cinema hall. SBSB might be a better entertainer than Supreme and PrathirojuPandage according to SDT. As of the first one, you can wait and go for the work ( like Tenet or WW’84 ) which respects your risked venture into the public place. The latter, I’m sure SDT can make a better entertainer than both his earlier works and SBSB is not that. This is the difference in the way us and SDT perceive this movie as special.
